Invisible Conversations: 18 Stories, 2013

Invisible Conversations: 18 Stories (video, 45.22 minutes) was produced by Debra Porch during a residency in Yerevan, Armenia in 2012. The video, a ‘Second-hand Memory Project’, presents 18 personal and family stories remembered about Armenian life . . . and death. The interviews — in Armenian (sub-titled) and English — are with artists and lecturers at Mkhitar Sebastatsi Educational Complex and others in Yerevan, August to October 2012.

With sincere thanks to the 18 interviewees and the Mkhitar Sebastatsi Educational Complex, August – October 2012. A special thank you to Susanna Gyulamiryan and the Art and Cultural Studies Laboratory, Yerevan. © Debra Porch & Ian Were

Humming, 2006

Debra Porch, Humming (Zoro), video, 16 seconds; Humming (candles), video, 17 seconds.  These two short videos were part of the art installation of the same name at QUT Art Museum, Brisbane, 16 March to 30 April 2006.

‘Humming investigates the juncture of memory and imagination through encounters with spaces, objects and images. Everyday objects are recognised, but transformed, isolated fragments are rendered with excessive detail but still remain unclear, and familiar materials seen out of context call to mind another time or place.’  Robyn Daw, in the catalogue.
